The following year, Cameron took his father to Argentina for his 70th birthday. Dad revisited St. George's College nearly 60 years after he left. The chair you see in this photo was given to the school by Harold Jewell in 1935. The headmaster at the time wrote this note: Dear Mr. Jewell: I am more grateful to you than I can say for your great kindness in presenting us with a chair for the library in memory of Richard's having been with us. I can assure you that there will never be a name in the school which I shall regard with more pride or more pleasure than that of Richard Jewell. His career has been a model for any boy to follow, and his great success both in work and in the development of personality should make you proud indeed. As I am sure that he will always follow the same lines, so I am confident that he will go far in life, and I believe that this is but the first of many occasions when those who know him will look upon his name with happiness as it goes ever higher on the list of honours. |
